Halloween is filled with pumpkins and ghosts, but my personal favorite are the spiders! Spider webs are so unique and honestly, a little mind blowing. And because of our love of spiders, we decided to do this adorable sponge painted spider web! Using paint, sponges, string, and a paper plate, you can create a beautiful painting that doubles as Halloween decor!

How To Make A Sponge Painted Spider Web
1. Tape one end of a piece of yarn to the back of a paper plate.
2. Wrap the yarn around the plate in different directions to create a spider web pattern. Secure the yarn on the back with tape as needed.
3. Dip a sponge lightly into black, orange, and purple paint. Avoid using too much paint on the sponge.
4. Gently stamp the sponge onto the front of the plate, covering the entire surface with colorful prints. Don’t press too hard, or the paint may bleed under the yarn.
5. Allow the paint to dry completely.
6. Carefully remove the yarn from the plate to reveal the white spider web design underneath.

Sponge paintings are my favorite activity for preschoolers because the are a very low-stress way to build motor skills. Kids use:
Hand-eye coordination to stamp the paper plate with the sponge;
Sensory exploration as they explore different textures when touching the sponge and paint; and
Grip control by grasping, picking up, and stamping the sponge which contributes to building the muscles in the hands and fingers,
