Make a bubbling witches brew experiment for Halloween! This easy Halloween science activity is a fun, hands-on STEM experiment for kids.

Materials

  • Small cauldron or container
  • Baking soda
  • Food coloring
  • Glitter
  • Vinegar
  • Tray or plate to catch the overflow

Instructions

  1. Place the cauldron on a tray or plate to contain any bubbling overflow.
  2. Add a few spoonfuls of baking soda to the bottom of the cauldron.
  3. Add several drops of food coloring. Purple, green, or orange make great witch’s brew colors.
  4. Sprinkle in some glitter for a magical effect.
  5. Slowly add drops of vinegar to the cauldron and watch the brew begin to fizz and bubble.
  6. Continue adding vinegar to create more bubbling action. Let kids experiment with adding it slowly or all at once and compare what happens.
