Materials
- Popsicle sticks
- Plastic spoon
- Rubber bands
- Candy corn
- Small cauldron or container for the target
Instructions
- Build the launcher arm. Secure a plastic spoon to one popsicle stick using rubber bands. Wrap the bands tightly around the spoon handle and stick so they stay firmly together.
- Create the base. Place two popsicle sticks together and secure them at one end with a rubber band.
- Make the center support. Take three more popsicle sticks and wrap a rubber band around their ends to hold them together.
- Assemble the catapult. Slide the pair of rubber-banded sticks between the two sticks that make up the base. Position them so the sticks form a sturdy crossing point.
- Add the launcher arm. Slide the popsicle stick with the spoon into the center of the catapult structure, positioning it so the spoon can move up and down like a lever.
- Load the catapult. Place a single piece of candy corn in the spoon.
- Launch! Hold the base firmly, press down on the spoon arm, and release it to send the candy corn flying.
- Aim for the cauldron. Place a small cauldron a short distance away and challenge kids to launch the candy corn into it. Move the cauldron farther away as their aim improves!
