Make an adorable firefly paper bag craft with kids! This easy, hands-on project is perfect for summer nights and exploring nocturnal insects.

Materials

  • Paper lunch bag
  • Black paint
  • Yellow paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Black construction paper
  • White construction paper
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • White paint marker or white crayon (optional for the mouth)

Instructions

  1. Paint the top 2/3 of a paper lunch bag black and let it dry.
  2. Paint the bottom 1/3 of the bag yellow to create the firefly’s glowing tail. Allow the paint to dry completely.
  3. Cut two large wings from black construction paper.
  4. Cut two antennae from black construction paper.
  5. Cut two large white circles for the eyes and two smaller black circles for the pupils.
  6. Glue the black pupils onto the white circles to make the eyes.
  7. Glue the eyes onto the front of the paper bag.
  8. Draw a smiling mouth below the eyes with a white paint marker or white crayon.
  9. Glue the wings to the back of the paper bag so they extend from each side.
  10. Glue the antennae to the top back of the paper bag.
